In the Service to the Armed Forces Adopt a Unit program, volunteers provide support for military members and their families in a particular unit. Before, during and after deployment and as families deal with their own personal emergencies, volunteers will be on hand to help. There are many ways volunteers can be involved, including:

 Celebrations

• Plan a send off or welcome home event for deployed units and ships
• Organize holiday and birthday parties throughout the year

 Family Friends

• Hold a retreat for military spouses
• Assist individual spouses dealing with especially stressful situations
  

Surprises

• Arrange and support special video connections for births
• Send care boxes to a unit or ship

Time Commitment: Organize and host at least two events over the course of one year.

The American Red Cross is the premier disaster relief organization and locally, our chapter responds to an emergency approximately every 24 hours. Support your community in the event of a disaster by partnering with our disaster services team!

Volunteers from partner agencies support sheltering activities during disasters. Duties may include:

• Client registration
• Translation
• Feeding
• Dormitory management

Time commitment: All volunteers must attend a five-hour training course, which may be available at your location. Volunteers will serve in 12-hour shifts during a disaster response. Partner agency volunteers must participate in one hands-on training or respond to one event per year.
