American Red Cross school clubs are youth service groups that help the Red Cross fulfill its humanitarian mission of preparing for, preventing and responding to emergencies. Working closely with our local chapter and a school advisor, club members participate in Red Cross service projects that help their schools, their communities and the world. The San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter believes youth have the potential to make a difference in huge ways. In our eyes, they are a vital resource bringing energy, innovation and inspiration to the American Red Cross.
How to start a successful Red Cross Club:
1. Get your school's approval. Most schools have procedures that must be followed before any group can form an officially recognized student club on campus.
2. Contact us at youth@sdarc.org to start your club in San Diego or Imperial Counties! For students interested in starting a club in another region, please visit www.redcross.org to locate your nearest chapter for club guidance and approval.
3. Recruit at freshman orientation days, club rush, volunteer fairs and more on campus.
4. Advertise! Create a club website, hang posters and pass out flyers advertising the first club meeting.
5. Hold regular meetings and plan fun service activities (we'll help!) to keep members interested, active and involved. Club officers must attend Youth Council meetings held at the San Diego headquarters office on the first Thursday every other month.
