When the American Red Cross is responding to a large national disaster, our local chapter is asked to activate Response Center Enterprise (RCE). RCE is a branch of the American Red Cross National Headquarters informational phone line and is activated in San Diego to help alleviate the influx of inquiries and phone calls - sometimes tens of thousands - that are made daily during a large disaster response.
The Reserve Program enables individuals to:
- Be pre-qualified and pre-trained
- Provide immediate assistance directly to clients should a large-scale national disaster occur
- Be trained to handle difficult calls and provide information to clients regarding resources available during the disaster
Time commitment: Volunteers must complete a four-hour training, which may be available at your location. To remain active, volunteers must participate in at least one RCE activation per year.
