Internships are available to young adults currently enrolled in school, recent graduates and those transitioning between careers.

Aquatics Program
Internship Dates: May - September
Assist with the coordination of the Division 2 Aquatics Program (California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico). Conduct face-to-face meetings with local aquatics leaders to encourage strong community partnerships and assist with administrative tasks, including maintaining the aquatics database, responding to emails and more.
Skills Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to travel to local aquatics facilities; experience with Microsoft Office; some familiarity with databases preferred
Chapter Communications
Internship Dates: June - September
The Chapter Communications Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the local media relations program, coordinating special events, and participating in the day-to-day operations of the office. A great resume builder! Qualified candidates will be available part time for a minimum three-month period.
Skills required: Major/Education Field related to Marketing, Media Studies, Communications, Public Relations or Journalism; strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite of software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database management, Outlook and PowerPoint programs; strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Disaster Services Feeding Activity
Internship Dates: May - December
Assist with the development and marketing of Red Cross Feeding activity to volunteers and external partners, including partner newsletters, organizing volunteer event photos, updating general guidance documents, developing operational spreadsheets, reports and more.
Skills Required: Experience with Microsoft Word and Facebook; experience with Google Docs and Excel preferred but not required; good communication and organizational skills
Disaster Services Shelter Survey
Internship Dates: May - December
Support the Disaster Services – Sheltering activity by assisting in organizing data from potential emergency shelter locations, facilitating and conducting face-to-face meetings with facility owners and managers and more. Will communicate by phone, email and standard mail and will work directly with Red Cross volunteers as a team.
Skills Required: Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office; attention to detail; ability to work professionally and independently
Event Coordinator: Lifeguard Games (August 5, 2012)
Assist the Aquatics Program Manager with all phases of event planning/logistics including arranging the schedule, identifying potential partners and donors, updating a volunteer plan and track process for future use and to be shared with other Chapters. Participate in committee meetings and assist with day-of event coordination (August 5 in National City), managing time lines, volunteer responsibilities and more.
Skills Required: Proficient communications skills; ability to use computer programs such as Word and Excel; strong, efficient time management
Health & Safety Instructor, multiple internships available
Internship Dates: May - December; 135 hours
Application Deadline for Summer/Fall 2012: June 1
Teach Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid to members of our community. Teaching opportunities are available during the day, in the evenings and on the weekends at various locations throughout San Diego. Must be available for multiple-day instructor training in May or June; must possess current Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR/AED and First Aid certification prior to instructor course.
Skills Required: Must be currently enrolled in San Diego or Imperial County community college; must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups; bilingual skills are a plus
Service to the Armed Forces Client Casework
Internship Dates: May - December
Support local military families by helping to manage client casework, counseling and problem-solving through conducting needs assessments, identifying local resources, generating emails and conducting surveys, all with the purpose of developing resiliency and self-reliance. May also participate in short-term fundraising and outreach projects to help achieve long-term goals of the Service to the Armed Forces and International Services programs.
Skills Required: Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office; attention to detail; ability to work professionally and independently; comfortable speaking on the phone; profound interest in social work or counseling; familiar with military operations and community
WIC Nutrition Education
Internship Dates: July - December
Support the Nutrition Education Special Projects: 8 Week Weight Loss Program, Employee Wellness Program, Cooking Demonstrations, Hands-On Cooking Classes and Food Safety. Travel to one or more of six WIC sites to assist in the set-up and clean-up of four monthly classes including a Weight Loss Program Orientation, Workout class, Cooking Demonstration, and Cooking Live! Class, teach hands-on cooking classes, lead a weekly weight loss support group, conduct nutrient and cost analysis on all recipes created, make reminder and follow-up calls to WIC participants, enter data from surveys and weekly weigh-ins and compile results, create weekly Employee Wellness Program challenges and more.
Skills Required: Experience in recipe development/modification, cooking and presenting; experience in cost and nutrient analysis; a basic understanding of WIC and the American Red Cross; ability and willingness to travel to assigned WIC clinics; valid California driver’s license, auto insurance; reliable vehicle during working hours; computer skills and experience, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; appreciate diverse staff and clientele; desire to work in fast-paced clinic setting; ability to work independently and take initiative; good written and verbal skills; well-developed organizational skills with a solid orientation to detail; flexible and able to adapt to variety of working conditions and culturally-diverse population.
