The American Red Cross relies on volunteers to help us with our mission of providing care and comfort to those in need. Thank you for your interest in becoming a Red Cross volunteer!
The five-step enrollment process may take up 1-2 months to complete. Please be patient with the process; we are only able to process 60 volunteers per month. The Volunteer Resource Department will be available to help guide you through the application process. Please contact us at redcross.volunteer@sdarc.org or 858.309.1261 if you have any questions about the process below. Thank you for your participation and support!
We do have limited availability for placement of volunteers. We want to find the best match for our volunteers, our organization and our clients.
Step 1: Attend a Red Cross Orientation.
This two-hour training highlights the history, values, and fundamental principles of the Red Cross and announces volunteer opportunities available within the chapter. View volunteer class schedule to enroll in the Red Cross Orientation. There is limited availability for the orientation. We only process 60 potential volunteers per month.
Step 2: Complete the Chapter Volunteer Application.
Available only at the Red Cross Orientation
Step 3: Complete an Interview with the Volunteer Resources Team
Phone interviews will be conducted every Tuesday and Wednesday. Schedule will be available at the Red Cross Orientation
Step 4: Complete a Background Check (18+)/Youth Permission Form (15-17)
If you are 18 or over, you'll need to complete a simple online background check. If you are a youth volunteer(ages 15 -17), you will need a parent or legal guardian to sign the Youth Permission Form. The instructions/documents will be provided after the Interview.
Step 5: Train for Your Volunteer Opportunity.
Depending on what volunteer path you choose with the American Red Cross, you may need to complete additional training. Volunteer coordinators will work with you to refer you to the department of your choice and will inform you of any additional training you may need to get started.
