Major Chris Fields Special Operations Officer Oklahoma City Fire Department
The Real Heroes Breakfast is a community celebration that honors citizens in San Diego and the Imperial Counties who have made a difference in their communities through individual acts of courage.
Our keynote speaker this year is Major Chris Fields of the Oklahoma City Fire Department. He was one of the first responders to the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building. Like all disasters, certain images stick in our minds as illustrations of their magnitude. And in Oklahoma City, a photograph of firefighter Chris Fields holding a child became one of those iconic images.
Major Fields has been with the Oklahoma City Fire Department since July 12, 1985. He has worked his way though the ranks in suppression serving as a Station Officer or Ride Out Officer since 1997.
Major Fields has been the Special Operations Officer since August 2008. As Special Ops Officer he oversees the operation of Water Rescue, Hazmat, and Technical Rescue, which includes low- and high-angle, swift water, urban search and rescue, confined spaces and a variety of special situations. He focuses on the overall management of on-going quality improvement, educational programs, and ensuring all equipment and supply needs for the Special Operations work section are met.
The Heart of Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross recently welcomed Major Fields as a distinguished member of its Board of Directors.
Major Fields and his wife Cheryl have been married since 1987 and have two sons, Ryan and Parker. He enjoys watching his sons in all their activities and loves watching them grow in to fine young men. He enjoys golf and his family enjoys going to every OU sporting event they can.
