Request a Speaker
Through the Red Cross Outreach Team, trained staff and volunteer speakers connect with community members and organizations to inform them about the valuable services we provide.
Whether keynoting a dinner or attending a community fair, our volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to share their experiences and our vision of becoming America’s Most Prepared Community. Speaker presentations can be customized to be presented in English and Spanish to meet the needs of your organization or audience.
The following are some creative ways that our Chapter reaches out to the San Diego and Imperial communities to deliver quality Disaster Preparedness education:
Youth: The Outreach Team gives Disaster Preparedness presentations at local Elementary, Middle and High Schools, as well as Universities. We encourage students to start Red Cross Clubs and become leaders in emergency preparedness at their schools! The Red Cross partners with the Office of Emergency Services to present OES for Kids! an interactive youth program designed to instill the importance of being ready for a disaster or emergency situation. For more information, please contact Amanda Cropper, our Youth Outreach Associate at 858-309-1475.
Business: The Red Cross Outreach Team of San Diego and Imperial Counties is dedicated to training local businesses in how to mobilize during a disaster and becoming a functioning mass care and sheltering unit, or deploy its own employees to assist with disaster response. This program is called Ready When the Time Comes and has already been adopted by many prominent local businesses. For more information, please call 858-309-1272.
Community: With over 3.6 Million people residing in San Diego and Imperial Counties, our Chapter sure does have its hands full! In order to tackle the task of educating that many people, our Outreach Team targets local community groups and organizations to effectively convey the importance of Preparedness. Here are some organizations that we consistently partner with:
- Places of Worship: Temple Emanu-El, Islamic Center of San Diego, United Methodist Churches of La Mesa and Chula Vista, San Diego Bethel Korean Church.
- Long Term Recovery Centers: Provide education and disaster backpacks to survivors of the 2007 Wildfires and Migrant Farm Workers.
- National Council of La Raza: Attended Annual Conference in San Diego in July 2008.
- Senior Citizens: Emergency Preparedness presentations to Seniors at local residence centers through organizations like Catholic Charities and RB United.
- BiNational Health Week: Provided Disater Education to participants in collaboration with the Mexican Consolate of San Diego.
- Community Organizations: We work constantly with local YMCAs, Kiwanis Clubs, Community Action Networks and many more wonderful organizations to provide education to their members.
Presentations for groups of 25 or more are conducted at your site. Maximum class size is 500. If you would like to request a Red Cross representative to attend your event, please contact our Community Outreach Coordinator, Ricardo Moran at 858-309-1272.
We ask to be notified of your event at least two weeks in advance and will do our best to accommodate your request. Thank you for your interest and for supporting your local American Red Cross!
