Description:
War is a lot more complicated than a video game. Students need the skills to understand when conflict intersects with the rights and protections of people—at home and abroad. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce educators to the Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) curriculum and prepare them to effectively and easily integrate the EHL curriculum into existing lesson plans.
Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) is an adaptable toolkit that gives educators easy-to-use materials to expose students to issues of international humanitarian law, the rules that ensure respect for life and human dignity in war. The toolkit offers educators primary source materials and strategies that reinforce and enrich existing curricula and educational programs.
The EHL curriculum aligns with the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) ten strands for secondary education and is currently integrated in over 40 countries worldwide. The format allows teachers to integrate whichever 45 minute session fits best into their current teaching curriculum. There are 30 hours of easy-to-use EHL sessions available which permits students to understand the rules governing war and can be easily incorporated into different subject areas such as: history, government, literature, psychology and more.
Exploring Humanitarian Law is an innovative, international program that builds critical-thinking skills and character through understanding human dignity: instilling respect, fairness, caring, and the responsibilities of global citizenship.
