Request a Speaker
Through the Red Cross Outreach Team, trained staff and volunteer speakers connect with community members and organizations to inform them about the valuable services we provide.
Whether keynoting a dinner or attending a community fair, our volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to share their experiences and our vision of becoming America’s Most Prepared Community. Speaker presentations can be customized to be presented in English and Spanish to meet the needs of your organization or audience.
The following are some creative ways that our Chapter reaches out to the San Diego and Imperial communities to deliver quality Disaster Preparedness education:
Youth: The Outreach Team gives disaster preparedness presentations at local elementary, middle and high schools, as well as universities. We encourage students to start Red Cross Clubs and become leaders in emergency preparedness at their schools! For more information, please contact us at youth@sdarc.org.
Community:
With over 3.6 million residents in San Diego and Imperial Counties, your local chapter has its hands full! To educate the community, the outreach team delivers presentations and staffs booths at community festivals to convey the message of disaster preparedness. Here are some examples of past partnerships:
Places of worship: Temple Emanu-El, Encanto Baptist Church, Islamic Center of San Diego, North Park Apostolic Church, and St. Jude Shrine of the West Catholic Church.
Long Term Recovery Centers: Provide Community Disaster Education presentations to community members affected by the 2007 San Diego County wildfires.
Latino Outreach: American Red Cross trained, bilingual speakers to provide presentations and staff events in the northern and southern areas of the county. Partnerships with American Diabetes Association for annual "Fiesta de Salud" health fair in National City; working with Border Angels to educate migrant farm workers about disaster preparedness; and participating in community events in the Barrio Logan area such as Fiesta del Sol, hosted by Justice Overcoming Boundaries; and health fairs in Chicano Park.
Senior Citizens: Community Disaster Education presentations through partnerships with AARP, Catholic Charities, Elder Help, Jewish Family Services, and RB United.
Community Organizations: Attending community events and delivering presentations at local YMCAs, Kiwanis Clubs, the San Diego Lesbian and Gay Men's Community Center, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.
